US Sources: Syria-Israel Talks Have Stalled Amid Deep Disagreements

US sources have confirmed that indirect and behind-the-scenes talks between Syria and Israel have effectively reached a deadlock, despite ongoing contacts and communications. These negotiations, which previously included formal meetings in Paris, have not produced any tangible progress toward a mutual understanding.
According to the Israeli daily Maariv, fundamental disagreements over several key issues have impeded progress in the talks. Chief among these are the presence of Turkish forces on Syrian territory and the potential withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied areas.
The report also highlights tensions between Damascus and Washington over Syria’s future governance. While the Syrian government supports a centralized administration, the US reportedly favors a federal model, similar to its approach in Iraq. An American official told Maariv that the United States seeks to implement the Iraqi governance model in Syria.
Meanwhile, Israel is attempting to bolster its influence near its borders by supporting the Druze community in southern Syria. This strategy has further complicated negotiations and fueled growing mistrust between the parties.
