Pakistan Summons Afghan Envoy Over Deadly Militancy Attack in North Waziristan
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announced on Friday that it had summoned Afghanistan’s deputy ambassador in Islamabad following a deadly attack on a military installation in North Waziristan that left four Pakistani soldiers dead.
According to the ministry, the attack was carried out by a faction of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Islamabad expressed deep concern over what it described as the Taliban administration’s “continued support and facilitation” of the group.
In an official statement, Pakistan called on the Taliban authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and to take firm, verifiable action against those responsible for and facilitating terrorist attacks allegedly orchestrated from Afghan soil. The statement also emphasized the urgent need for action against all terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan, including their leadership.
Pakistan warned that it reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens, and said it would take necessary measures in response to what it calls terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Taliban administration has consistently denied Pakistani allegations that attacks are being planned from Afghan territory—a claim that continues to raise questions and criticisms regarding the Taliban’s security obligations.
