Pakistan Says Militant Activity in Afghanistan Poses Regional Threat

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that a recent United Nations Security Council (UNSC) report confirms the presence and activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan—a development that, according to Islamabad, contradicts the Taliban administration’s claims of preventing Afghan territory from being used for cross-border attacks.

Tahir Hussain Andarabi, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, said the continued operations of such groups have not only hindered the establishment of stable relations between Islamabad and the Taliban administration but also constitute a serious threat to regional peace and security.

According to Andarabi, the UNSC report highlights the activities of groups such as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS-Khorasan, and al-Qaeda operating within Afghanistan. These groups have raised growing security concerns among neighboring countries.

He added that the report identifies Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan as the “most significant regional security threat,” and that its ongoing activities from Afghan soil raise serious questions about the Taliban administration’s commitment to its security responsibilities and the implications for regional stability.
