At Least Three Afghan Migrants Die from Cold Near Iran Border

The spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Herat has confirmed that at least three Afghan citizens died from cold exposure while attempting to illegally cross into Iran near the border areas of Kohsan district in Herat province.

Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing, and additional details may surface regarding the number of victims and the condition of others involved. So far, only three fatalities have been officially confirmed.

Meanwhile, local sources in Kohsan district reported on Friday, December 18, that more than three people may have died, suggesting that the actual death toll could be higher. The incident has sparked renewed concern over the plight of migrants navigating these perilous routes.

The Taliban governor’s spokesperson added that local officials and rescue teams plan to assist affected individuals. However, the lack of clear information and delays in response have once again raised questions about the responsibilities of local authorities in safeguarding citizens and managing humanitarian crises in border regions.
