Trump Calls for Swift End to Ukraine War, Suggests Kyiv Is Delaying Peace Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stated that conditions are ripe for ending the war in Ukraine, saying the warring parties are closer than ever to reaching an agreement. Criticizing the slow pace of negotiations, Trump urged Ukraine to promptly engage in a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
Expressing hope for a quick solution, Trump said that there is now a significant window of opportunity to end the war in the near term, but warned that inaction by Kyiv might squander that chance. He emphasized that further delays in talks could have negative implications for the peace process.
The U.S. President also revealed the possibility of a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying Netanyahu has requested a meeting and that it will likely take place in Florida. Trump added that although no formal plans have yet been made, he would welcome hosting the Israeli leader.
In another part of his remarks, Trump said he sees no need to notify Congress about a potential attack on Venezuela, arguing that such action has already been authorized. However, he noted he has no objection to informing Congress about a ground assault.
Trump also hailed the ceasefire in Gaza as a “major success” on the path to “peace in the Middle East”, and expressed interest in meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, saying he would be pleased to host him.
Since returning to the White House, Trump’s administration has made ending the Ukraine war a top U.S. foreign policy priority. In recent months, efforts have been underway to re-energize diplomatic channels with the parties involved. Nevertheless, Trump’s frustration with Ukraine’s slow approach to negotiations has become increasingly outspoken.
