Brazil Offers to Mediate Between US and Venezuela Amid Rising Tensions

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has announced his country’s readiness to play an active role in mediating the escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela, advocating dialogue over confrontation.

According to Al Jazeera, Lula stated that he has already spoken with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro regarding the current situation and emphasized the possibility of resolving differences through negotiations rather than resorting to war. He also expressed serious concerns about potential hidden agendas behind the rising tensions.

The Brazilian president confirmed that he has also spoken with current US President Donald Trump, aiming to bridge the divide between the two sides. Lula suggested that Washington’s increasing pressure on Caracas may be driven by the interests and motives of powerful groups.

Highlighting his background in regional diplomacy, Lula noted that he was one of the founding members of the ‘Group of Friends of Venezuela’ and had previously attempted to mediate between the US and the government of Hugo Chávez during George W. Bush’s presidency. He added that he is now seeking to apply that past experience in his dealings with both Trump and Maduro.
