Taliban Health Minister Attends WHO Traditional Medicine Summit in India

The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health has announced that Noorjalal Jalali, the acting health minister, took part in the second World Health Organization (WHO) Traditional Medicine Summit during an official visit to India. The summit was attended by representatives from around 100 countries, including several health ministers, professional experts, and officials from various branches of the WHO.

According to a statement from the ministry, the conference focused on issues such as standardizing traditional medicine, training personnel in this field, recognizing traditional medicine as a legitimate component of health systems, and sharing countries’ experiences.

The ministry said the Afghan delegation’s participation aimed to help standardize traditional medicine within the country. It noted that for decades, this sector has been practiced in an unregulated manner without defined standards and curricula.

The ministry added that in recent months, efforts to regulate and organize traditional medicine have accelerated. Initiatives are underway to establish clear frameworks, which, if implemented transparently and scientifically, could positively impact public health.
