UNICEF Builds Wells in Nangarhar to Combat Waterborne Diseases

UNICEF Afghanistan has announced the construction of two water wells and tap systems in the village of Torga in Nangarhar province, significantly reducing the risk of children contracting diseases caused by contaminated water.
According to the statement, the project focused on providing clean water, helping families—particularly children—gain access to safe drinking water, a key factor in preventing waterborne illnesses.
The organization added that with support from the European Union, it is installing solar-powered underground water supply systems in various parts of Afghanistan to sustainably deliver clean water to underserved areas.
Limited access to safe water remains a long-standing challenge in many parts of the country, especially in rural areas. Humanitarian organizations are working through similar projects to address this critical need.
