ISIS Propaganda Circulates in Idlib, Raising Security Concerns

Reports from northern Syria indicate that leaflets and messages purportedly linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) were distributed this morning in parts of Idlib city and its surrounding areas. The messages suggest a resurgence of the group’s activities, sparking fear among local residents.

According to information released by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the leaflets directly reference the return of ISIS. One message read: “ISIS will return soon,” a phrase that has heightened security concerns in the region.

Residents of Idlib say that since the shift in power in Syria and the rise of the Jolani administration, the security situation has not improved—in fact, in many areas it has deteriorated. Reports indicate that the new administration has failed to establish lasting security, and armed clashes among affiliated groups have even escalated in various parts of the country.

This is not the first instance of ISIS-related propaganda appearing in Syria. Previously, slogans in support of the group were scrawled on school walls in the town of Mahkan and the city of Al-Quriyah in eastern Deir ez-Zor province. These developments highlight persistent security gaps that continue to allow extremist groups to regain traction in Syria.
