UN-Habitat: Afghan Children Envision a Brighter Urban Future

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) office in Afghanistan reports that Afghan children and adolescents already have a clear understanding of their ideal urban future, expressing their visions through art and creativity.

According to UN-Habitat, one young artist said that their artwork reflects the future they hope to see in their city and country—a future filled with laughter, equal opportunities, and a peaceful environment where all residents can thrive.

The UN agency emphasizes that children and young people not only have a clear image of a better city but that their perspectives can serve as a guide for urban planning—especially in a country where a significant portion of the population is made up of youth.

UN-Habitat calls on responsible institutions and the international community to help turn these visions into reality across Afghanistan’s urban areas, moving beyond aspiration to tangible transformation.
