Miami May Host Emergency Ukraine Talks Involving U.S., Kyiv, and European Leaders

An American media outlet has reported the possibility of urgent meetings to address the Ukraine crisis being held in Miami, Florida. The discussions are expected to include representatives from Washington, Kyiv, and several European leaders.
According to Al Jazeera, citing Axios, the meetings are scheduled to take place later this week. A dinner is also planned on the sidelines of the summit, featuring Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump—as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump is also expected to hold phone calls with participants during the meetings.
Axios, quoting informed sources, reported that Washington’s proposed plan for Ukraine involves Kyiv withdrawing from certain areas under its control in the Donbas region. These areas would then be transformed into a demilitarized economic free zone.
However, a U.S. official told Axios that the final decision on territorial matters will be left to Ukraine. Despite this, The Wall Street Journal cited several Ukrainian and European officials expressing doubts about reaching a comprehensive agreement on Ukraine by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg, quoting a knowledgeable source, reported that Washington has backed Moscow’s request for Ukrainian forces to withdraw from the city of Donetsk. At the same time, Zelensky and his European allies continue to stress the importance of establishing a ceasefire along the current line of contact in Ukraine.
In a joint statement, the United Kingdom and other European nations asserted that Ukraine’s security, independence, and prosperity are essential elements of Euro-Atlantic stability. They emphasized that international borders cannot be changed by force and that decisions regarding Ukraine’s territory must be made by its people.
Separately, the European Union stated it supports the provision of strong security guarantees to Ukraine as part of any potential peace agreement. The bloc also called for the creation of a European-led multinational force backed by Washington. EU leaders additionally welcomed Trump’s efforts to advance the peace process in Ukraine.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that ending the war in Ukraine is only possible through the demonstration of strength, and that lasting peace can only be achieved when Ukraine’s sovereignty and defensive capabilities are guaranteed.
