ILO Training Programs Support Drug Rehabilitation Efforts in Afghanistan

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has announced that it has supported the recovery and social reintegration of 150 former drug users in Afghanistan through the implementation of vocational and business skills training programs.

According to the initiative, participants received training in work skills and entrepreneurship to help them secure employment and sustain their livelihoods after overcoming addiction. These programs were designed to reduce economic dependency and promote self-reliance.

Afghanistan has faced a severe drug addiction crisis in recent years, while the absence of comprehensive support programs has made social reintegration for recovering individuals challenging. In this context, the role of international organizations in bridging this gap has become increasingly significant.

Experts stress that sustaining such achievements requires ongoing support, the creation of real job opportunities, and serious attention from the Taliban administration to social policies and labor market development—areas that have so far received insufficient focus.
