Taliban Intelligence Official: We Do Not Seek War

The deputy head of the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence has stated that the agency, amid the current “sensitive situation,” is committed to a resolution issued by a group of Islamic scholars and claims it does not seek conflict. This comes amid ongoing concerns over the political and security implications of the Taliban administration’s hardline stance.

Maulavi Tajmir Jawad alleged that certain domestic and foreign elements are attempting to destabilize Afghanistan under various pretexts. He asserted that the Taliban administration is committed to regional stability and security, but warned that if war is imposed, the group will utilize what he called its “defensive capabilities.” Such a position could escalate tensions both within Afghanistan and across the region.

Addressing the issue of education, the Taliban intelligence official said the administration aims to simultaneously focus on religious and modern sciences. According to Jawad, religious education is essential for preserving Islamic beliefs, while modern education is deemed necessary for the country’s development and welfare.

Jawad also spoke of plans to reform religious and modern educational curricula, improve teaching methods, ensure discipline, and enhance the quality of education. These remarks come amid widespread criticism at home and abroad over broad restrictions—particularly the systemic exclusion of girls and women from education—that have cast serious doubt on the credibility of such claims.

His statements follow the approval of a five-point resolution by a group of Islamic scholars on Wednesday night. The resolution declares support and defense of the Taliban administration as a “duty” and emphasizes the Afghan people’s resistance against any form of aggression. This approach has fueled concerns that religion may be exploited to legitimize political power and suppress dissenting views.
