At Least 15 Killed in Antisemitic Shooting at Jewish Ceremony in Sydney
Australian police have confirmed that at least 15 people were killed in a deadly shooting during a Jewish religious ceremony near Bondi Beach in Sydney. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the attackers have been identified as a father and son.
According to police officials, around 1,000 people were attending the ceremony, which was held in a public park near the beach. The gunfire lasted for nearly 10 minutes, causing widespread panic among participants and nearby residents. Victims ranged in age from 10 to 87 years old.
Police stated that the 50-year-old father, one of the main perpetrators, was killed at the scene, while his 24-year-old son is in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital. Security officials emphasized that only these two individuals were involved in the attack, which has been described as a targeted antisemitic assault.
During the incident, a man named Ahmad Al-Ahmad managed to disarm one of the attackers. Police said his courageous act played a crucial role in preventing further casualties and likely saved many lives.
Australia’s Prime Minister condemned the shooting, calling it a “terrorist act” and expressing solidarity with the country’s Jewish community. Authorities have described the event as the deadliest act of gun violence in Australia in nearly three decades.
