Taliban Spokesman Cites 2% Inflation Forecast for Afghanistan in 2025

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, has cited part of a World Bank report stating that Afghanistan’s inflation rate is projected to reach an average of 2% in 2025 — a figure he says ranks among the lowest in the region.
According to the report, the relative stability in food prices and strengthening of the Afghan currency are identified as key factors behind this forecast. The World Bank regularly analyzes macroeconomic indicators such as prices and monetary conditions in its assessments.
However, economic experts consistently warn that macro-level statistics do not necessarily reflect the living conditions of the broader population. As Afghanistan continues to grapple with widespread unemployment, poverty, and severe economic restrictions, critics argue that the Taliban administration’s focus on broad indicators should not replace accountability for everyday hardships and the ongoing lack of transparent economic policies.
