Over 5,500 Afghan Migrants Deported from Iran and Pakistan in a Single Day

More than 5,500 Afghan migrants were forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan in a single day, according to official reports, highlighting the ongoing precarious situation faced by Afghan refugees.

Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban administration, shared a report from the High Commission for Refugee Affairs stating that on Sunday, 1,014 families totaling 5,580 individuals entered Afghanistan through various border crossings.

According to Fitrat, the migrants returned via Islam Qala in Herat, Silk Bridge in Nimroz, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Bahramcha in Helmand, and Torkham in Nangarhar — all key transit points between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries.

He added that 1,083 families, comprising 5,924 individuals, had been relocated to their original places of residence, and humanitarian aid had been distributed to 900 families. In addition, telecommunications companies provided 1,119 SIM cards to the returnees.

This comes just a day after 4,991 Afghan migrants were also forcibly deported from Iran and Pakistan. The rising number of forced deportations has raised concerns over the lack of a clear support program and the Taliban administration’s inability to effectively defend the rights of Afghan migrants.
