UN Chief Condemns Deadly Drone Attack on Peacekeepers in Sudan

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that a drone strike on a UN logistical base in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state in Sudan, has killed six peacekeepers and wounded eight others.

According to Guterres, all the victims were Bangladeshi nationals serving as part of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The base is located in an area considered a high-risk security zone due to ongoing conflict in central Sudan.

Guterres strongly condemned the attack, calling it “unjustifiable” and warned that targeting peacekeepers could constitute a war crime under international law.

He also called for the immediate identification and prosecution of those responsible, stressing that ensuring the safety of UN personnel is essential for the continuation of humanitarian and peacekeeping missions.
