UN Says Aid Still Insufficient for Afghanistan Earthquake Survivors

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that months after a devastating earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, approximately 223,000 people in the hardest-hit areas have received assistance. However, a large portion of the affected population is still facing the onset of winter with limited support.

According to OCHA, the aid efforts have not yet met the basic needs of all affected families. A severe lack of shelter, fuel, and other winter necessities remains a major concern among local residents.

OCHA stressed that the current humanitarian response for earthquake survivors has only been funded at 34 percent, underscoring a significant gap between needs and available resources. The agency urged the international community to urgently increase its support.

Meanwhile, humanitarian organizations have repeatedly warned that a lack of effective and transparent management within the country—specifically under the Taliban administration—is posing serious challenges to the fair and timely distribution of aid, putting vulnerable families at even greater risk.
