Kabul Residents Face Severe Shortage of Public Transport After Work Hours

Residents of Kabul have voiced frustration over a severe shortage of public transport vehicles after official working hours, saying the issue has significantly disrupted their daily commutes. According to locals, the number of city buses and other vehicles declines markedly after around 3 p.m., leaving many forced to wait for hours at bus stops.

As government offices close, long lines and heavy crowding form at transport stations — a situation that is particularly exhausting for employees, women, and the elderly. Residents emphasize that the lack of an organized schedule and effective management has deepened the crisis by the day.

Some citizens blame the Taliban administration’s poor management of urban transportation for the ongoing chaos, saying there is no clear plan in place to regulate vehicle movement or meet the public’s needs during peak hours. They argue that this lack of planning highlights a disregard for one of the most basic urban necessities.

In addition to the shortage of vehicles, residents report that some drivers are exploiting the situation by overcharging fares or carrying passengers beyond the vehicle’s capacity, further adding to public strain. Citizens are calling for immediate action and stricter oversight of the city’s transport system to ease this chronic issue.
