55 Arrested in Herat Over Criminal Charges, Taliban Authorities Say

Herat’s security command has announced the arrest of 55 individuals in connection with various criminal offenses in both urban and rural areas of the province over the past week.
In a statement, the press office of the security command—affiliated with the Taliban administration—said the arrests were carried out during several separate intelligence and operational missions conducted by security and investigative forces. According to the statement, those detained are currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in various criminal cases.
The allegations include murder, armed robbery, theft of vehicles and jewelry, illegal possession of firearms, and several other criminal offenses. However, no further details have been provided regarding the identities or legal status of the arrested individuals, a lack of transparency that has consistently raised concerns about the judicial and legal processes in the country.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Nabizada, spokesperson for the Herat security command, reported that during the same week authorities recovered 14 stolen vehicles and 11 stolen mobile phones, all of which have been returned to their rightful owners.
He added that today, four more stolen vehicles were identified by personnel from the 12th district police department and will soon be returned to their owners.
