EU: Over 21 Million in Afghanistan Lack Access to Safe Drinking Water

The European Union’s humanitarian aid division for Asia and the Pacific has reported that more than 21 million people across Afghanistan do not have access to safe drinking water, posing a serious threat to public health across the country.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X on Sunday, the EU said it has been working to improve access to clean water by installing water pumps and digging wells in several regions of Afghanistan.
Access to safe water is one of the basic necessities of life and a key factor in preventing disease. However, in recent years, the lack of infrastructure and effective planning in this sector has worsened the situation for many families.
Amid the Taliban administration’s ongoing control of public services, aid organizations have repeatedly stressed that the inability to provide basic services, including drinking water, has added extra pressure on daily life and increased dependency on foreign aid.
