Community Efforts Help Contain Flood Damage in Upper Arghandi

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Afghanistan has reported that recurrent flooding in the Upper Arghandi region in recent years has caused widespread damage to farmland, destroyed orchards, and endangered the lives and livelihoods of families residing in nearby areas.

According to the report, in an effort to mitigate these threats, local authorities and residents of the region have implemented controlled farming techniques and established organized water management systems. These measures aim to control flooding and prevent further land degradation.

This local cooperation demonstrates that in the absence of coordinated planning and sustained support from the Taliban administration, joint initiatives between communities and local institutions can play a significant role in reducing the impacts of natural disasters.

Experts have consistently emphasized that vulnerable areas, particularly in Afghanistan, require long-term policies, infrastructure investment, and accountable institutions to protect the lives and assets of the population in the face of climate change.
