Over 900 Afghan Families Return via Border Crossings, Says Taliban

The Taliban administration has reported that 913 families, totaling 4,991 individuals, returned to Afghanistan through various border crossings in the past day. The figures were released on Sunday, December 13, by Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban.

According to the report, the majority of these families re-entered the country through the Torkham border, where 533 families crossed. Of these, 394 families were subsequently relocated to the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, and Kabul.

The report also stated that 256 families returned through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, 71 families entered via the Helmand border post, and 19 families came through the Islam Qala border point.

However, the Taliban administration did not provide any details regarding the families’ living conditions, access to basic services, or any concrete plans for their long-term resettlement. Human rights organizations and social activists have consistently cited these concerns as major issues in the ongoing process of forced or large-scale repatriation of Afghan migrants.
