Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan Back Joint Policies for Peaceful Development in Afghanistan

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has announced that his country, in cooperation with Turkmenistan, is pursuing aligned and joint policies to support the peaceful development of Afghanistan. He made the remarks on Friday during the International Conference on Peace and Development held in Ashgabat.
Mirziyoyev added that integrating Afghanistan into regional economic processes and strengthening infrastructure connections are fundamental to ensuring sustainable growth and stability in the country. According to him, opening avenues for economic cooperation could help improve living conditions for the Afghan people and increase employment opportunities.
During the same conference, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced the establishment of a regional United Nations center for sustainable development goals in the city of Almaty and emphasized his country’s continued humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
Analysts say that while regional countries are trying to expand economic and humanitarian cooperation with Afghanistan, the Taliban administration has so far failed to create the necessary conditions for such regional engagement and continues to face internal challenges and international isolation.
