UN Chief Warns of Catastrophic Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has described the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as catastrophic, warning that most residential and non-residential areas in the enclave have either been completely destroyed or severely damaged. He said the continued Israeli attacks have led to a growing number of civilian casualties and widespread destruction of vital infrastructure in Gaza.
Expressing concern over the fragile security situation and the potential collapse of the ceasefire, Guterres emphasized that limited entry of food aid has failed to alleviate the hardships faced by Gaza residents. According to him, the living conditions in the region remain critical.
The UN chief also stressed the importance of accountability for any crimes or violations of international law, stating that the international community must ensure those responsible are held to account.
In addition, Guterres warned against the ongoing illegal settlement expansion in the West Bank and the escalating violence by settlers against Palestinian residents, calling for an immediate halt to these practices.
Relief organizations have also reported that the prolonged siege and repeated attacks have placed the lives of millions in Gaza at serious risk. Humanitarian experts have urged the international community to take concrete action to end the cycle of violence and reduce civilian suffering.
