UN Chief Visits Baghdad to Mark End of UNAMI Mission in Iraq

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has arrived in Baghdad to attend a ceremony marking the official conclusion of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), according to Iraqi sources.
During his visit, Guterres was welcomed by Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, who expressed Baghdad’s appreciation for the role the United Nations and UNAMI have played in Iraq over the years.
Hussein stated that the end of UNAMI’s mission signifies Iraq’s progress, stability, and the government’s ability to manage national affairs, strengthen sovereignty, and consolidate constitutional institutions.
In response, Guterres expressed pride and satisfaction in the UN’s cooperation with Iraq. He reaffirmed the UN’s continued support for the country through frameworks tailored to the next phase, aimed at achieving sustainable development and reinforcing international partnerships.
