Taliban Health Minister to Visit India Amid Expanding Medical Cooperation

India’s Tribune newspaper has reported that Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban administration’s Minister of Public Health, is set to arrive in New Delhi in the coming days. The visit comes as India, despite not recognizing the Taliban government, has been increasing its technical and medical assistance to Afghanistan.
According to the report, the visit will include discussions on expanding healthcare cooperation and supporting medical infrastructure projects in Afghanistan. In recent years, the Indian government has played an active role in supplying vaccines and medicines, rebuilding hospitals, and training Afghan medical personnel.
Jalali will be the third Taliban official to visit India since the group took control of Kabul. Prior to him, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, and Nooruddin Azizi, Minister for Industry and Commerce, had also visited India.
Although New Delhi has refrained from granting formal recognition to the Taliban administration, it has sought to maintain relations with Afghanistan through humanitarian and economic channels. Political analysts suggest that continued visits of this nature could open the door to limited technical dialogue. However, there is no indication so far of any shift in India’s official stance on recognizing the Taliban’s legitimacy.
