Spain Names Foreign Ministry Room After Afghan Women and Girls

The organization ‘Women for Afghanistan’ has announced that Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dedicated one of its rooms to ‘Afghan Women and Girls.’ Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized that the move honors the resilience and struggle of Afghan women and girls.

The room previously hosted the first ‘Hear Us’ meeting in 2022, and a photograph of Afghan women participants from that session was taken. On December 12, dozens of Afghan women attended a meeting at the Spanish Foreign Ministry aimed at supporting women’s rights in Afghanistan.

During the event, Spanish officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Afghan women and girls. They also criticized the restrictions and human rights violations imposed by the Taliban regime, calling for greater attention to the plight of this vulnerable group.

Following the collapse of Afghanistan’s former government, Spain granted asylum to a number of Afghan women and girls and has consistently underscored its support for their rights.
