Naglu Solar Power Project Nears Completion in Kabul’s Surobi District

The Naglu solar power project in Surobi district of Kabul province is nearing completion, with 99% of the work finalized, according to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the national power utility. Once operational, the plant is expected to supply over 42,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually to the national power grid.
In a statement released on Saturday, December 12, DABS said the project, with a generation capacity of 22.75 megawatts, is part of the country’s broader efforts to expand clean energy production and is considered one of the key solar power initiatives in the Naglu area.
The utility noted that the electricity generated by the solar facility will address a significant portion of the country’s energy shortfall and help meet the power demands of industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.
According to DABS, the project has been implemented through private sector investment, with construction work beginning in early 2024. The investor company is currently completing the final stages, and the project is expected to be officially inaugurated soon.
