Bagram Airbase Lies Largely Abandoned as Taliban Dismiss US Reclaim Demands

According to a report by The Washington Post, the Bagram Airbase is currently in a near-abandoned state, with the Taliban forces making no use of the facility. In an apparent attempt to project continued activity at the base, authorities have painted large images of military aircraft on its surface.

Satellite imagery analyses reveal that the number of military equipment and aircraft present at Bagram is severely limited, with some of the remaining assets being non-operational and seemingly intended for display purposes only.

The report comes amid repeated calls by US President Donald Trump for the base to be reclaimed from Taliban control. In response, the Taliban have declared that they will never relinquish the base back to the United States.

Following the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, a large portion of Bagram’s military equipment was destroyed by American forces. Reactivating the base would now require substantial financial investment, posing a significant strain on the Taliban administration’s already limited budget.

Located in Parwan Province, north of Kabul, Bagram Airbase was once the most important US military installation in Afghanistan. Strategically vital, the base featured a wide runway and facilities including fortified shelters, control towers, weapons depots, and recreational centers for deployed forces.
