Over 4,000 Afghan Migrants Return Home in a Single Day

More than 4,300 Afghan migrants returned to the country in a single day, according to the Secretariat of the High Commission for Refugee Affairs. The office reported that on Friday alone, 830 families—comprising 4,301 individuals—were registered at domestic intake centers. On the same day, an additional 979 families, totaling 5,298 individuals, were transported to their original areas of residence.
The Commission stated that it provided financial and logistical assistance to 636 families during the repatriation process, as well as distributing SIM cards to the same number of families to help facilitate their communications.
In its statement, the agency said that efforts to coordinate and ease the reintegration and resettlement process for returnees are ongoing. However, migration experts warn that group returns amid harsh economic conditions and the lack of adequate infrastructure pose new challenges for returning families.
Experts emphasize that, rather than merely offering statistics, the Taliban administration must implement practical, long-term measures to provide employment, shelter, and educational services for these returnees in order to prevent escalating social issues in the receiving areas.
