EU Pledges €25 Million to Combat Climate Change in Afghanistan

The European Union has announced a €25 million donation to the World Food Programme (WFP) aimed at strengthening Afghan communities against the impacts of climate change and promoting access to nutritious food. According to the EU, the funding is intended to enhance the resilience of people across various regions of Afghanistan in the face of climatic effects and to improve family nutrition.
The EU emphasized that Afghanistan has suffered significant damage in recent years due to recurring droughts, floods, and declining agricultural production. It stressed the country’s need for increased humanitarian and development assistance. This funding is part of the EU’s ongoing efforts to support food security in crisis-affected countries.
Experts warn that climate change threatens the livelihoods of millions of Afghans, and the lack of a coherent climate policy by the Taliban administration has worsened the situation. Analysts believe the Taliban’s continued neglect in managing natural resources could deepen Afghanistan’s dependence on international aid.
The World Food Programme, a key humanitarian agency of the United Nations, remains active in Afghanistan, particularly in climate-vulnerable provinces, delivering food aid and implementing development projects.
