Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister’s Secret Visit to Israel Revealed

Sources familiar with the matter have told Reuters that Taiwan’s Deputy Foreign Minister made a secret visit to Israel-occupied territories in recent weeks. The trip, which was conducted discreetly, reportedly aimed to explore potential areas of cooperation between Taiwan and the Israeli regime in security and technical sectors.
According to the same sources, previous visits by Taiwanese officials to the occupied territories have occurred before, but this latest trip was carried out with increased caution and secrecy due to the sensitive nature of Taiwan-China relations. In recent months, ties between Taiwan and Tel Aviv have emerged as a point of contention between Beijing and Israel.
Chinese media had earlier reported that a number of Israeli lawmakers issued a statement supporting Taiwan’s observer status at the World Health Organization — a move analysts believe was motivated largely by a desire to gain favor with the United States. The move prompted a strong response from China, which views Taiwan as an integral part of its territory and considers any formal relations between Taipei and other governments to be an interference.
According to an analysis by Chinese media outlet Sohu, the motivations behind these positions are not solely external political pressures. Some Israeli politicians have reportedly pushed for closer ties with Taiwan in hopes of strengthening military and trade relations.
