Pakistan Court Sentences Ex-ISI Chief Faiz Hameed to 14 Years in Prison

Pakistan’s military announced on Thursday, December 11, that a military court has sentenced former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed to 14 years in prison. According to the military’s statement, Hameed was convicted of interfering in political activities, violating military laws, and misusing authority and state resources.

Faiz Hameed was previously considered one of the most influential figures within Pakistan’s security and political establishment. During his tenure at the ISI, he played a significant role in regional developments, including Islamabad’s relations with the Taliban administration in Afghanistan — a role that has long been a source of debate and criticism among political observers.

His military trial began in August 2024 and lasted for fifteen months. Official sources have not disclosed further details about the proceedings. Analysts view the verdict as a sign of a shift in the Pakistani military’s approach toward former generals and an attempt to curb political interference within the armed forces.
