Amrullah Saleh Warns of ‘American Taliban’ Threat to U.S. Reputation

Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president of Afghanistan, has referred to a group of influential circles in the U.S. capital as the ‘American Taliban’, warning that these individuals have damaged the international reputation and credibility of the United States.

In a recent social media post, Saleh stressed that external Taliban forces pose a minor and manageable threat to the U.S., but groups in Washington who act with leniency and vague policies toward the Taliban administration represent a greater challenge to American interests.

Without naming specific individuals, Saleh cautioned that the U.S. must first be vigilant about the ‘American Taliban’ within its own ranks. According to him, these circles have caused inconsistency and weakness in U.S. policy toward Afghanistan.

Saleh’s remarks come amid criticism from some Afghan political figures and civil society organizations regarding how certain U.S. officials have engaged with the Taliban administration in recent months.
