Taliban Ministry Announces Graduation of Vocational Trainees in Kabul

In a ceremony held in Kabul, the Taliban-run Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced the graduation of a group of vocational trainees. The graduates received training in fields such as electrical work, tailoring, plumbing, and hands-on technical skills, and are now considered ready to enter the job market.

Mohammad Zahid Ahmadi, deputy minister of the department, said that creating employment opportunities for orphans, individuals without guardians, families of war victims, and people with disabilities is one of the ministry’s main programs. He emphasized that the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs aims to perform effectively in fulfilling these responsibilities.

Ahmadi added that the Taliban administration has provided technical and vocational training to vulnerable groups across the country, including rehabilitated drug addicts and people disabled by war. He stated, “We have a duty to create employment opportunities for these groups, and we strive not to fall short in this mission.”

Meanwhile, some trainees who received their graduation certificates said that despite completing six-month courses, they still need access to job opportunities that match their skills. Shamshad Rahimi, one of the graduates, said, “We are grateful for these opportunities, but we also demand the continuation of such programs and access to employment.” Abdul Munir Wahidi also urged officials to provide work opportunities aligned with the graduates’ acquired specialties.

Another graduate, Mohammad Jawadi, stated that technical training programs can enhance young people’s capabilities and help prevent forced migration. He emphasized that the continuation of these initiatives is essential to reducing unemployment among Afghan youth.

However, social affairs experts argue that the Taliban administration has so far failed to create real employment opportunities for the thousands of graduates from technical training centers, and that the lack of an active labor market has caused many of them to face unemployment shortly after graduation.

At the end of the ceremony, the deputy labor minister and other officials distributed graduation certificates to the trainees.
