Taliban Dismisses Reports of Explosion in Panjshir Province

Saifuddin Laton, spokesperson for the Taliban-appointed governor in Panjshir province, has denied reports of an explosion in the region. He stated that no security incidents have been recorded in the past three years, and the rate of criminal activity has significantly decreased. In an interview with the media, Laton emphasized that the published reports about an explosion in Panjshir are baseless.

According to Laton, the Taliban administration describes the security situation in the province as “completely secure,” and claims that Panjshir has now become a hub for trade and tourism. However, local observers argue that such statements by the Taliban are primarily intended to portray stability in regions that previously witnessed widespread resistance and conflict.

Located in northeastern Afghanistan, Panjshir has been one of the provinces that experienced ongoing tensions between opposition forces and the Taliban administration following the fall of the republic in 2021. Some residents have previously complained about strict movement restrictions and increased security pressures. Independent sources, however, are unable to verify the current security situation due to limited media access in the area.
