Pope Leo XIV Criticizes Trump’s Remarks on Europe

Pope Leo XIV, the leader of the Catholic Church, has criticized recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Europe, describing them as an attempt to undermine the historic cooperation between Washington and Brussels. He stated that the alliance between the United States and Europe is one of the fundamental pillars of global stability, and preserving it is crucial for the future of international relations.

According to Euronews, in his latest remarks, Pope Leo XIV stressed: “Efforts to weaken U.S.-Europe relations will lead to greater instability in the world.” He also underlined the significant role European countries play in supporting the peace process in Ukraine.

The Pope’s comments come after Donald Trump, in an interview with Politico, suggested the possibility of reducing or halting U.S. support for Ukraine. He also described Europe as “weak” and “on the brink of collapse.” Additionally, he criticized European immigration policies, claiming that they have destabilized the continent’s social structure.

International affairs analysts believe the differing views between the Pope and Trump could once again strain the relationship between the Christian world and conservative American politicians. Some European diplomats have emphasized that transatlantic unity, particularly amid the crisis in Ukraine, is more important now than ever.
