Landslide Temporarily Shuts Kabul–Nangarhar Highway in Darunta Region

Nangarhar’s security department has announced that a landslide in the Darunta area has temporarily closed the main Kabul–Nangarhar highway, making vehicle passage completely impossible. Local officials say technical teams are on site to clear debris and reopen the route.

According to a statement from the department, drivers are advised to take the alternative Laghman–Charbagh–Safa route until the road is reopened, in order to avoid further congestion in the area. The Kabul–Nangarhar highway is one of Afghanistan’s most vital transportation routes, connecting the eastern provinces to the capital. Its closure has widespread impacts on both public travel and the transport of goods.

Local experts have warned that the lack of preventive measures and regular maintenance of mountainous routes has increased the risk of similar incidents. They have called on the Taliban administration to urgently implement sustainable plans to ensure road safety and prevent such disasters in the future.
