Japanese Ambassador Urges Inclusive Government in Afghanistan

Kenichi Maesamoto, Japan’s ambassador in Kabul, has emphasized that the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan remains a significant and unresolved issue for the international community. He added that his country consistently encourages Taliban officials to form such a government during bilateral meetings.

In an interview with TOLOnews, Ambassador Maesamoto stated that Afghanistan needs to establish a framework for dialogue among its people. He stressed that although this process must be Afghan-led, the international community also plays a crucial role in creating the conditions for inclusive dialogue.

“We want to welcome and encourage dialogue. Our initial focus is to promote dialogue among the Afghan people. If everything is left solely to the Afghans, it’s quite possible that no dialogue will occur. We must emphasize inclusivity and the participation of all segments of society,” the ambassador said.

The establishment of an inclusive government has been a key demand of regional countries and the wider international community since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan. However, the Taliban authorities have consistently asserted that this issue is an internal matter and that other countries should not interfere—a stance that has thus far resulted only in increasing international isolation and pressure.
