Construction Begins on Homes and Mosque for Earthquake Victims in Kunar

The Afghan Ministry of National Defense has announced the start of construction on 35 residential units and a mosque in the Darah Mazar area of Nurgal district, Kunar province. According to the ministry, the total cost of the project amounts to 33.5 million Afghanis, and it aims to provide shelter for families who lost their homes in the recent earthquake.

Ministry officials said the initiative is part of efforts to assist those affected by the disaster and to improve living conditions for earthquake survivors. However, local observers report that reconstruction efforts in Taliban-controlled areas are progressing slowly, with many residents still living in tents or unsafe shelters.

In recent months, the Taliban administration has spoken of implementing reconstruction projects across various parts of the country. However, local sources and internally displaced persons have repeatedly raised concerns over a lack of transparency and delays in aid distribution. Reconstruction experts emphasize the need for increased oversight by independent bodies and local survivors to ensure that aid reaches those most in need.
