Taliban Representative in Qatar Meets European Peace Institute Advisor

The Taliban-run embassy in Qatar has announced that Suhail Shaheen, the acting head of the mission, met with Patrick Duveris, senior advisor at the European Institute of Peace. According to the embassy’s statement, the meeting focused on Afghanistan’s relations with European countries, building mutual trust, and the role of the international community in engaging with the Taliban administration.
Discussion topics reportedly included regional issues, potential European investment opportunities in Afghanistan, and ways to improve bilateral relations. However, observers note that the Taliban administration’s lack of international legitimacy and the broad restrictions on freedoms within Afghanistan remain major obstacles to building trust with the global community and attracting foreign investment.
The European Institute of Peace is recognized for its work in political dialogue and analysis, and this meeting may be regarded as part of unofficial efforts to reassess the global community’s engagement with Taliban-led Afghanistan.
