Man Rescued After 12 Years of Captivity in Dark Room in Zaranj

Local authorities in Nimroz province say Taliban security forces have rescued a man in the city of Zaranj who was reportedly held by his relatives in a dark room for twelve years. The man, believed to be around 50 years old, was found in poor physical and mental condition.

Local sources added that the man’s relatives had kept him hidden from the public for an extended period. The motive behind the act remains unclear. Eyewitnesses in the area said residents were shocked by the incident, describing it as “inhumane behavior.”

While Taliban security officials say an investigation has been launched, residents have criticized the lack of oversight and the weakness of local institutions in addressing such cases. They argue that unless the Taliban administration responds to public complaints and establishes an effective monitoring system, such tragic incidents are likely to continue.
