New Disaster Management Office Inaugurated in Kapisa Province

A newly constructed building for the Directorate of Disaster Preparedness and Response was officially inaugurated yesterday in Afghanistan’s Kapisa province. According to Maulavi Mohammad Saber, head of the directorate, the three-storey facility spans 364 square meters and was built at a cost of 13 million afghanis, funded by the National Directorate of Natural Disaster Preparedness.

The building comprises 12 rooms and was completed within six months. Saber stated that the new facility provides improved working conditions for staff and addresses previous challenges caused by the lack of an adequate workspace.

Previously, the Kapisa Directorate of Disaster Preparedness operated out of a rented building that suffered from limited space and resources. Local officials report that in recent months, similar buildings have been constructed in five provinces across the country, including Kapisa.

Despite these developments, local observers have emphasized the need for the Taliban administration to place greater focus on disaster prevention and climate-related preparedness, warning that the mere construction of buildings without effective planning will not meet the needs of citizens during times of crisis.
