Ghazni Farmers Welcome Trade Halt with Pakistan but Demand Markets and Cold Storage Facilities

Following the Taliban administration’s decision to halt trade with Pakistan, a number of farmers in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province have welcomed the move, saying that placing restrictions on commercial relations with Pakistan could help resolve some issues in the agricultural supply chain.
However, the farmers also expressed serious concerns, highlighting the continued lack of access to reliable markets as a major challenge. They emphasized that unless established routes for selling agricultural products are developed and modern cold storage facilities are provided, their crops will remain at risk of spoilage.
Farmers in Ghazni argue that the development of stable markets and the construction of standard cold storage units are essential to prevent crop loss and to support the agricultural economy in the province’s southern districts. According to them, the Taliban administration must take more practical and sustainable measures to protect the livelihoods of farmers and to promote agricultural development.
