Timely Support Boosts Food Production in Afghanistan, FAO Says

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced that timely support for Afghan farmers has led to increased food production despite ongoing economic and natural challenges. The agency stated that when farmers receive assistance at the right time, they can enhance food yields and ensure household income, even under difficult conditions.

According to the FAO, its goal is to empower farmers to strengthen community food security and remain resilient in the face of recurring crises.

In a recent initiative, several farmers from various provinces—including Tahira, Khalil-Nazr, Nazifa, and Ziarat-Gul—shared their experiences with the FAO. They reported that access to improved seeds, agricultural tools, and technical advice at the appropriate time significantly boosted their harvests and improved their families’ livelihoods.

Although Afghanistan continues to face significant food security challenges, international organizations like the FAO emphasize that investment in the agricultural sector is one of the most effective ways to combat poverty and hunger. In the absence of clear policies and effective programs from the Taliban administration, these organizations are working to ensure the continuity of life and agricultural production for farmers.
