Kazakh Envoy Meets Taliban Officials in Kabul to Discuss Regional Ties

Perkin Tokumov, the special representative of Kazakhstan’s president, arrived in Kabul on Monday and held talks with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister under Taliban rule. According to a statement from the ministry, the main focus of their discussions was strengthening political and economic relations between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan, as well as addressing recent regional developments.
During the meeting, Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed a desire for regional relations with Afghanistan to be based on diplomacy, mutual understanding, and respect. He stated that, in the Taliban administration’s view, political and economic ties between the two countries have seen growth.
Meanwhile, Perkin Tokumov emphasized Kazakhstan’s continued comprehensive cooperation with Afghanistan and said achieving lasting regional stability was a shared responsibility among all countries in the region. He added that this could be accomplished through trust and economic cooperation.
Despite repeated calls by Taliban officials to expand international relations, some observers believe the group’s restrictions and policies have negatively affected Afghanistan’s regional standing and global engagement.
