Syrian Alawites to Launch Nationwide Strike Against Ruling System

Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal, head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Alawites in Syria, has announced a nationwide five-day strike by the Alawite community from December 8 to 12. According to reports, this peaceful protest is a response to ongoing ‘crimes committed by Julani’s elements’ and the actions of what is referred to as the ‘ruling regime.’
According to Mehr News Agency, citing Al Mayadeen, Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal pointed to developments following the ‘fall of the former regime,’ saying that it was expected that tyranny would be eradicated following that collapse. However, he noted that what actually happened was the ‘real downfall of what remained of this country’ under the banner of freedom. He emphasized that certain ‘rulers’ are forcing the celebration of what he described as a ‘more oppressive regime,’ even as they engage in actions such as arrest, murder, beheading, abduction, and destruction.
The head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Alawites stated that the aim of the strike is to raise the voice of the Alawite community against mass killings and to demand the immediate release of thousands of military and civilian detainees. He warned that the community will not remain silent in the face of aggression and would respond with a ‘storm’ if necessary.
