Russian Envoy Meets Taliban Representative in Islamabad to Discuss Bilateral Ties

Albert Khorev, Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, met with Mawlawi Sardar Ahmad Shakeeb, the Taliban administration’s representative for Afghan affairs based in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The two discussed ongoing relations between Afghanistan and Russia.
According to a statement published by the Russian Embassy in Pakistan on its X account (formerly Twitter), the two sides also addressed key regional and international issues during the meeting. This comes amid ongoing efforts by the Taliban administration to engage internationally, despite lacking official recognition from any government.
During the talks, both the Russian ambassador and the Taliban envoy emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation. They also discussed regional security concerns and the importance of practical steps toward promoting lasting peace and stability in Asia.
Although such diplomatic engagements are unofficial, they reflect the Taliban’s continued attempts to establish a presence on the international stage.
