Israel Launches New Military Drills Near Lebanon and Syria Amid Rising Tensions

The Israeli military has announced the launch of new military exercises in the sensitive areas of Shebaa Farms in southern Lebanon and Mount Hermon in southern Syria. The announcement, made on the evening of Saturday, December 7, 2025, and reported by international outlets including Al Jazeera, signals escalating tensions along Israel’s northern borders with its neighbors. According to the statement, the maneuvers are set to begin on Sunday, December 8, drawing global attention to the region’s security situation.

Shebaa Farms, located in southern Lebanon, is a disputed territory claimed by the Lebanese government as an inseparable part of its national land, although it remains under Israeli control. Similarly, parts of Mount Hermon, situated in southern Syria, have been under Israeli control for decades. These territories, considered part of the Golan Heights, are under Israeli occupation, with Israeli authorities repeatedly stating they have no intention of relinquishing them. Many view these actions by the Israeli military as expansionist moves that violate the national sovereignty of countries in the region.

Such drills in politically and militarily sensitive border regions often heighten instability and cause anxiety among local residents. Continued tensions along these borders pose significant risks to regional security and the stability of neighboring countries, potentially igniting broader conflicts. The situation once again highlights the urgent need for peaceful resolution of disputes and respect for national sovereignty.
